Welcome to Japanology Reloaded
Updated: Apr 23, 2019
Welcome to Japanology, my personal study and reference notes on Japan.
I'm Nette. I don't know how you got here without knowing me a little, but whatever.
Family and friends stateside often ask, "Nette, what's it like living in Japan". So here, and on the vlog more so, I'll take a crack at showing you.
Japan is my adopted home, and more increasingly just home. Last time I visited stateside, I felt alien even with my native language all around me. The smells(mainly Pine Bluff), the boring toilets, the hit or miss food, the car rides, the yoga pants as casual wear, the unorganized and dirty feeling discount shops, chatty strangers, etc. It was more akin to a visit to a new town than a visit "home". Not saying I wasn't happy to see my family and friends, eat real KFC biscuits, and find my bra size, pants length, and skin color in cosmetics, but it was weirdly not home.
I decided to show Japan though my limited, but increasing understanding of the language and culture, with a large dose of humor and salt. Hopefully, some of it is relatable and perhaps even helpful for any others, especially black women, wondering around in Japan. So stay tuned!
